This week I felt like I was being pulled in many different directions. We have all had moments where people require our attention and tasks need to be completed but it seems like there isn’t enough time. During these moments it is especially important to prioritize yourself. It sounds counter intuitive but it is essential if you want to be able to get anything done.
Your self care should be non-negotiable. If something is considered non-negotiable, it means that it isn’t up for discussion; basically it is set in stone. I find that this word is frequently used in corporate or work settings but not in our daily life.
As a society, we put so much emphasis into completing tasks that “need” to get done for work or for other people but we lack that same emphasis when it comes to caring for ourselves.
Take the time to check in with yourself and think about the things you need in order to feel fulfilled.
Taking care of yourself has to be non-negotiable. Choosing to eat healthy, exercise, meditate, journal, read, explore, and spend time alone should all be priorities. Instead, we look at these things as a fad or trend or something we have to achieve immediately but the commitment is temporary. Prioritizing your mind, body and soul is taking CARE of yourself, for yourself, so you can be the best version of yourself.
This week I made it a priority to go on one of my favorite walks. Of course I had things that needed to get done but I put myself first and the other things can wait.
How to get started…
Create a list of things that you need in order to show up as your best self. Most self care tasks should take place before your day begins. This way you put yourself first and you are responsive instead of reactive. Organize your list by what fuels your mind, body and soul. Or you can free write your list. Do whatever feels right to you.
