This past week, life reminded me—gently, but importantly—just how deeply we can impact others, often without even realizing it.
While running errands, I unexpectedly ran into two familiar faces from a part of my life that feels both recent and distant: my old gym crew. We were the early risers, showing up at 4:30 a.m. like clockwork. Every day, we'd exchange simple words—"How was your weekend?" "How’s the family?" It was the kind of interaction that seems small on the surface. But in its consistency, it built a quiet thread of connection.
When that daily rhythm ended, I didn’t fully realize what had been left behind. But seeing them again—laughing, catching up, made me realize how those brief moments had meaning. They were a part of my routine, and maybe I was part of theirs too.
Later in the week, I received a kind note from a coworker. She took the time to tell me how much my presence and support had meant to her this school year. It was unexpected—and deeply moving. We often go about our days thinking we're just doing our job, just being ourselves. But to someone else, those “justs” can mean the world.
So here’s what I’m sitting with:
We rarely know the full extent of the impact we have.
A shared smile, a thoughtful question, a consistent presence—these are things that don’t make headlines, but they do make a difference.
In a world that often celebrates grand gestures, let’s not overlook the quiet power of everyday kindness. The unexpected relationships that form simply because we show up, day after day. The small ways we touch lives just by being who we are.
This week, I’m grateful for the reminders that:
Routine creates connection.
Your presence matters—even when you don’t see the ripple.
You never really know who’s carrying a piece of you with them.
Keep showing up. Keep being kind.
You’re likely making more of a difference than you know.
B. Well said and a great reminder for all of us. Thank you. Gary
